Spreading Joy and Kindness: Our Holiday Card-Writing Campaign

Some of the cards received from our holiday card-writing volunteers

For the fifth consecutive year, the Alliance proudly hosted its annual holiday card-writing campaign, spreading festive cheer to residents of assisted living facilities across the Seacoast. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers came together to craft heartfelt cards, filling each one with messages of joy, hope, and love.

Donna, one of our card-writing volunteers, captured the spirit of the campaign perfectly when she shared, “...I could not think of a better activity to spread cheer and caring to those so in need. Such loneliness, particularly, for residents of nursing homes and assisted living. Thank you and your team for spreading kindness and such thoughtfulness. I am so heart happy to be involved!”

Delivering 1,500 Messages of Cheer

Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, the Alliance delivered over 1,500 holiday cards to eight assisted living centers throughout the Seacoast. A total of 512 residents received these colorful, personalized cards, each one brimming with well-wishes and heartfelt messages. Along with the cards, residents were treated to delicious cookies donated by the Alliance for Greater Good, further sweetening the season.

This year, participating facilities included Bellamy Fields, Benchmark at Rye, Edgewood Centre, Langdon Place, Residence at Silver Square, Watson Fields, Webster at Rye, and Wentworth Senior Living.  Most facilities provided a list of residents’ first names and a fun fact about each resident. This thoughtful touch enabled our "card-writing elves" to personalize their messages, making each card even more meaningful.

A Heartfelt Thank You from the Residents

The impact of these cards and treats was clear. As Lisa Moll, Resident Engagement Director at The Residence at Silver Square shared, “It was our sincere joy to receive your beautiful and thoughtful cards, as well as the delicious cookies. You have shared your light and caring heart with our residents. Many thanks!”

Community Support and Involvement

The success of this campaign wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our community. A total of 392 card-writers participated, including 134 school children, all coming together to brighten the holidays for those who needed it most.

In addition, we’d like to extend a special thank you to Emma Stratton, Executive Director of the Portsmouth Historical Society and her team for organizing a card-making station at their annual Gingerbread House Exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition created 120 beautiful holiday cards, adding even more warmth to our campaign.

A Season of Gratitude

The Alliance team is deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s card-writing campaign such a success. A huge thank you to our volunteers, the assisted living facility contacts, and everyone who took the time to spread joy through their words and actions. Together, we’ve made this holiday season brighter for so many.
